Larry Joe Garrett

On October 18th, 1951, Mr. Larry Joe Garrett began his earthly journey when he was born to the union of Walter R. Garrett and Georgia Ray Swain Garrett in Talladega County, Alabama.

Larry, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and nephew accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age and united with Tallassahtchie Missionary Baptists Church, Childersburg, Alabama.

Larry was educated in the Talladega County School System and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School, Childersburg, Alabama.  After graduating, Larry began his working career in the textile industry and was employed with Avondale Mills.  Later Larry became a jack of all trades, and a skillful mechanic.

Along Larry’s life’s journey he met and united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Polly Ann Wright.

On January 6th, 2023, Larry traded his earthly journey for eternal rest, under the care of UAB Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, reuniting with his parents, Walter R. Garrett and Georgia Ray Garrett, four siblings, Marcus Ray Garrett, Michael D. Garrett, Walter Charles Garrett and Tony Earl Garrett. 

His love will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Polly A. Garrett of Childersburg, AL; two children, Derrick Keith, Sr. of Birmingham, AL, and Jasmine Wright of Childersburg, AL; two sisters, Annie P. Greenlea and Doretha G. Stone, both of Childersburg, AL; two brothers, Ronnie Garrett of Childersburg, AL, and Earnest (Deborah) Garrett of Carson, CA; seven grandchildren, seven aunts, two uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
