Althea Jane Hamilton Obituary

Childersburg, Alabama -  On May 19, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Herbert and Juanita Hearst were blessed with the birth of Althea Jane Hearst.  Althea was the fourth of six children. Doris, John, Patricia, and Denise who sadly preceded her in death.  Althea had an endearing spirit of love towards everyone she encountered.

Althea was educated in the Public School System of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating from Kensington High School in 1968.  She went on to attend Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing from there she would graduate with a degree in nursing in 1975.

Althea relocated to Childersburg, Alabama where she met and married Howard Hamilton, and from this union a child was born, Rhonda Laverne “Holly” Hamilton; who preceded her in death.

Once Althea relocated to Childersburg, she became gainfully employed at the University of Birmingham Hospital, until she retired in 2005.  She also volunteered her time and service working at the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce for many years.  Althea united and joined Pleasant Valley CME Church where she served as a faithful member holding many titles such as: President of the Missionary Society, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary and Choir member.

Althea was inducted into the Childersburg Hall of Fame I 2020.  She also received the Life Membership Award in 2023 by President Mary Thompson of the Birmingham Region WMS.  She was also given the Lifetime Member award to the Eula F. Harris Society on the WM Council Level.

Althea Hamilton was blessed with the adoption of her great niece and nephew, Caliea and Cameron Hamilton whom she loved and cherished with all her heart and soul.  In the midst she also became the legal guardian to her nephew Brian Jones.

Although a prolonged illness intervened, she kept the faith until her final calling, on Thursday, October 17, 2024 when she answered God's call, “Come Home” my good and faithful servant. You’ll be sadly missed by those you love and warmly greeted by the savior above; we loved you dearly but God loved you best.  He’s taken you home to eternal rest.

Althea Hamilton leaves to cherish her loving and heartfelt memories; two children, Caliea and Cameron Hamilton both of Childersburg, AL.  Four grandchildren, Levi and Leia Hamilton both of Childersburg, AL and Mariyah Johnson of Vincent, AL.  One sister, Sheila Kennedy of Philadelphia, PA. A special cousin, Clara Johnson of Adamsville, AL.  One God daughter, Sheila McGregor of Childersburg, AL.  A special family friend, Mary McGregor of Childersburg, AL.  A wonderful caretaker, Darlene Marbury of Childersburg, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
