Amagene Brager Ayers

Birmingham, Alabama - Mrs. Amagene Brager Ayers was born on December 5, 1947, in Sylacauga, Alabama (Talladega County), to the devoted parentage of the late William Dimple Brager and Alma Mae Mitchell Brager. She departed this life leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and love for her family.

At an early age, Amagene accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend N.C. Shepherd. Later in life, after returning home, she joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshiped under the leadership of Reverend Kendell Burton.

Amagene received her education from East Highland High School. She later continued her studies at the Detroit College of Business, where she earned an Associate’s Degree. Her dedication and professionalism led her into a successful career in banking. She specialized in foreign currencies and served faithfully until her retirement from Bank of America in 2008.

Amagene’s life was firmly rooted in her deep love for the Most High God, whom she placed above all else. She cherished her children and grandchildren dearly, constantly pouring into their lives love, wisdom, and encouragement. She had a passion for reading scripture and studying history, always seeking knowledge and deeper understanding.

Cooking was one of Amagene’s greatest joys. She loved discovering new recipes and preparing meals that brought her family together around the table. She took pride in celebrating every accomplishment of her children and grandchildren. Through life’s many challenges and triumphs, she remained a steady source of guidance, comfort, and strength. No matter the battle, Amagene faced it with courage, resilience, and unwavering faith. Truly, she ran her race and finished her course.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William Dimple Brager and Alma Mae Groce; her sister, Mary Wilson; her brothers, Dimple Brager, Charlie Daniel Brager, Norman Lorenza Brager, and Eddie Blake; her stepbrother, Roy Lee Brazley; her son-in-law, Ricky Chapman; and her granddaughter, Oliver Nicole Hamiel.

Amagene leaves to cherish her loving memories her children: Bridgett Nicole Chapman, Dannette Alfreda (Philip) Little, and Ishmeal Ahmond (Princess Lynn) Crawford.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Victoria Inette (Alan) Graves, Evelyn Ashley (Ken) Jackson, Philip James Little, Isaac Ibn Ishmeal Ahmond Crawford, and India Crawford.

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Ezra Alexander Jackson and Kensington Donnell Jackson.

In addition to her immediate family, Amagene leaves behind her siblings, Carolyn Diana (Willie) Wyckoff, Ronnie Howard, Inetta Faye (Victor) Mims, Evelyn Katrina-Mapp, and Samuel Hugh (Bettie) Blake; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
