Bettina Elaine Whetstone

Bettina Elaine Whetstone was born on April 28, 1958.  She gave her life to Christ at an early age.  She had a sweet and kind spirit.  As a child she became a member of Joyful Noise AOH Church of God, Sylacauga, Alabama.  Attending church was one of the things that she really found joy in.  Every chance she could, she would be there right behind her mother (the late Minister Betty Pope) headed into the house of the Lord.  Sometimes it would be only those two having church alone.

The day she became a resident of Coosa Valley Healthcare she was skeptical, hesitant, and nervous.  Once her paperwork was signed, about 20 minutes later, everyone knew Bettina had arrived.  She had already begun making friends.  She continued to prosper in her new environment.  Her care team affectionately called her their baby and Bettina basked in the attention.

She loved and cared about her family, friends, and just people (animals too) in general.  It did not matter how many times you saw her; she was going to ask how everyone was doing.  It was astonishing to see how she remembered everyone’s birthday.  Of course, she was not going to allow you to forget when hers was coming up.  She would say, “You know I have a birthday coming up; what are you going to get me?” That question would always tickle her so bad, and whomever she was talking to.  She loved to laugh!  She loved to joke! She loved to love, and she loved to be loved!

To say that she will be missed is an understatement! She will never be forgotten.  Bettina was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 22, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. John Lee Whetstone, her mother, Minister Betty Ruth Pope, her brothers, Mr. Perry Allen Whetstone, and Mr. Danny Ray Pope.

Her love will forever be cherished by her four brothers, Mr. James (Margaret) Borden, Harold Whetstone both of Sylacauga, AL, Mr. John (Pearlie) Whetstone of Alpine, AL, and Mr. Christoper Whetstone of Tuscaloosa, AL; two sisters, Ms. Rebecca Pope, and Ms. Angel Pope both of Sylacauga, AL; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life for Ms. Bettina Elaine Whetstone, age 66, will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00AM at Joyful Noise AOH Church of God, Sylacauga, Alabama. Bishop Johnnie L. Woods, Jr., Eulogist. Interment will commence in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Sylacauga, Alabama.  Public viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
