To many who knew her, Mrs. Betty S. Herbert, was a prime example of God's blessings to the world. Betty's life journey began on February 1, 1945, in Ohatchee, Alabama. She was born to Mr. Charlie Ford and Eva Jane Sturkie.
Betty accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. After graduating from Calhoun County Training School in Hobson City, Betty met the love of her life. She married Mr. Fred Maurice Herbert, spending over 42 years of marriage together, until God called him home in 2014.
Betty was an amazing mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and sister-in-law. Her life revolved around her family. Her hobbies included: bingo, shopping, singing, eating, watching Young and Restless and CSI, riding up and down Highway 21, relaxing at Oxford Lake and keeping the ducks feed while there, smoking cigarettes, and lovingly blessing you out if she didn't agree with what you had to say. Betty lived freely and loved every minute of life.
On June 23, 2022, our beloved Betty departed this earth. In God’s special way and perfect timing, he picked from our midst this sweet soul and added her to his heavenly garden where her spirit will bloom forever.
Betty's memories will forever be cherished by her loving children: Kendall (Sherrie) Sturkie of The Woodlands, TX, Walter (Sheri) Sturkie of Tuscaloosa, AL, Maurice (Britney) Herbert of Jacksonville, AL, Marvin (Shayon) Herbert of Houston, TX, and Marcus (Leigh) Herbert of Anniston, AL. Grandchildren: Ryan, Isabelle, Sean, Emma, Cassandra, Samiyah, Alondra, Bryce, Aaliyaha, Lily, Jacob, Megan, Darrell, Jordan and Aidan. Siblings: Evelyn Moore, Olen Sturkie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Maurice Herbert, parents, Charlie Ford Sturkie and Eva Jane Sturkie, and siblings, Charlie C. Sturkie (Mary), Lewis C. Sturkie (Isabelle), Odessa Burrell (David), Sarah Robinson (Sam), Ruben E. Sturkie (Louise), and Sadie Davis (Billy), Lula Brewster.
