Billy Ray Thomas affectionally known as BuckWheat, was born on February 9, 1965 to the late Mrs. Nola Mae McGhee Thomas in Talladega County, Alabama.
At an early age Mr. Thomas accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Rising Star Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama. Later he united with Africa Missionary Baptist Church, Talladega, Alabama where he was an active member of Sunday School and he sang with the Africa Male Chorus. Mr. Thomas received his formal education in the Sylacauga City School system and graduated with the class of 1985 at Sylacauga High School, Sylacauga, Alabama.
Mr. Thomas began his work career and became a dedicated employee with Pursell Company for over 17 years. He had great joy in gardening and using his talent and skills to help others.
On June 19th, 2022 Mr. Thomas departed this walk of life under the care of Sylacauga Health and Rehab Service, Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nola Mae Thomas, three sisters, and two nieces.
His love will forever be remembered by his six brothers, Arness (Lattifat) Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Kimwana Thomas of Sylacauga, AL; Sam Ervin, Jr. of New York, NY, Fred Ervin, Theophlis Ervin, Broadrick Ervin, Steven Ervin, and Lawerance Ervin all of Sylacauga, AL; five sisters, Lora Averette of Sylacauga, AL, Lorna Thomas of Birmingham, AL; Cecellia (Jimmie) Thomas of Chicago, IL, Gwendolyn Jefferies of Sylacauga, AL, and Elizabeth Ann Ebron of Washington, DC; special friends and caregiver, Joseph Thomas and Henry Rush; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
