Billy Wayne Cottingham a.k.a “Rope” was such a loving man. Born March 21st, 1952, to the late Earline Cottingham and late Abram Cottingham. Billy was born and raised in Sylacauga, Alabama. At a young age, Billy accepted Christ into his life and became a member of the Harper Spring Baptist Church. He attended East Highland High School. Upon graduation, Billy spent many of his years as a construction worker for Shellcast Construction in Alabama. He later moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he met the love of his life, Lorraine Cottingham. He continued his construction work career in Boston, working for Riley Construction and Todesca Construction.
Along Billy’s life journey he met and united in Holy Matrimony with Lorraine C. M. Bethea. Into this union 5 children were born: Carlos, Buffy, Tia, Amiel and Candace.
On Friday December 16, 2022, God called Billy home from Coosa Valley Medical Center. Although we did not agree with His decision, we are a peace to know Billy is in great hands. He has been reunited with his parents, his older brother Ray Cottingham, his niece Mary D. Nix, his niece Yolanda K. Cottingham and many other family and friends we lost along the way.
Billy leaves behind his loving wife Lorraine Cottingham; two sons, Carlos Bethea, and Amiel Cottingham; three daughters, Leah (Buffy) Bethea, Tia Cottingham, and Candace Cottingham all of Boston, Massachusetts. Billy also leaves behind three sisters: Sarah Lee (James) Thomas, Wilmington DE, Mary C. Nix, Sylacauga AL, and Julie Ann, Columbiana AL; two brothers: Albert L. Cottingham and Clarence Cottingham.
His legacy continues with 7 beautiful Grandchildren, Alexis Rocker, Quittle Williams, Ayanna Rocker, Carlos Bethea Jr, Andrew Bethea, Ashley Rocker, and Alivia Bethea. and two great-grandchildren Sandly Valmyr Jr, and Za’Riah Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
