Charlie Avery was the ninth child born to the late Joseph Alphus Avery and Gertrude Waites-Avery on August 27, 1948, in Wilsonville, Alabama.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife: Sallie Buie Avery. Son, Tony Avery, four brothers: Arthur Leonard Avery, Joseph Avery, Jr., Larry Avery, and Thomas C. Avery, four sisters: Easter Crook, Bobbie Avery Mims, Yvonne Walker, and Ida Mae Avery.
Charlie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and united with the First Baptist Church in Wilsonville, Alabama. Throughout life Charlie was known as Sonny by his family and friends. Charlie was a graduate from Shelby County Training School in Colombiana, Alabama where he was an amazing basketball player. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He then served his country and was honorably discharged. He returned home and became a certified truck driver and employee at Inverness Country Club. Charlie was well known throughout the community for his passion for helping others. his love for music and dancing and always having a good time with his family.
Charlie leaves to cherish his precious memories one daughter, Tammie Key; stepchildren, Katie, Glenda and Eddie (Suzette) Buie, three sisters, Betty Rowe, Catherine Howard, and Cherrie Wells, one brother, James (Johnnie) Avery, one brother-in-law, George Walker, sister in laws, Geraldine Avery, and Ruthie (Earnest) Buie; six grandchildren, one great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
