Charlotte Anita Pope Obituary

Sylacauga, Alabama - Charlotte Anita Pope, affectionately known as “Nita,” was born on November 21, 1962, in Sylacauga. She departed this walk of life on February 12, 2026, at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Charlotte received her education at B.B. Comer Memorial High School in Sylacauga, Alabama. At an early age, she joined Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she began her Christian journey. In her later years, she attended Reaching The World Bible Church, continuing to nurture her faith.

Charlotte was employed as a switchboard operator at Grandview Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Through her work, she connected countless individuals with care and compassion, serving diligently and faithfully.

“Nita” truly enjoyed life. She had a vibrant spirit and a heart full of love, especially for animals. An avid animal lover, there wasn’t a strange animal to her—she welcomed all creatures with warmth and kindness. Her gentle nature and lively presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Pope and Corene Borden Pope; her sister, Pearlene Pope Clay; and her brother, Milton Edward Woods.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her sisters, Lucille Pope-Ford of Detroit, MI and Laura Pope (Bishop Henry J.) Ligon of Opelika, AL; her brothers, James Edward (Beverly) Pope of Ocala, FL, and Robert Woods of Akron, OH; her aunt, Louise Bledsoe of Sylacauga, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and quiet strength. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
