Clara Bell Gardner Obituary

Childersburg, Alabama - Clara was the eldest daughter of Robert and Earline Anderson, born into a loving family of twelve siblings. Educated at Phyllis Wheatley School, Clara grew up rooted in the values of hard work and family. She met and married George Gardner from Harpersville, AL. Together, they shared 4 children. She later moved to Brooklyn, NY where she would reside for over half of her life. There, she was employed as a Line Worker at Ideal Toy Company and later as a Janitorial worker with the American Postal Workers’ Union. These roles were not just jobs for Clara but were expressions of her dedication to providing for her family and taking pride in her work. After retirement, she moved back home to Childersburg, AL.

Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son Gary Gardner, a bonus son Darryl Hayes, her granddaughter Cherisse Gardner and her sisters Josie Anderson McMillian, Ruth Anderson Swain, and Betty Anderson Porter, Clara is now reunited with them in eternal peace.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her surviving children: Ronald Gardner and Dennis Gardner of Brooklyn, NY, Yvonne Gardner of Childersburg, AL and bonus son, Patrick Hayes. Clara’s grandchildren, Danielle Gardner-Forbes (Damian), Donnell Gardner, Dennis Gardner, Jr., Dionna Gardner and Hezekiah Gardner and one great-granddaughter, Cadence Forbes will forever remember the wisdom and love she shared with them. She is also survived by her siblings, James Anderson, Barbara Anderson Bethea (John), Nona Anderson Cunnigham (Johnny). Robert Anderson, Larry Anderson (Tammy), Percy Anderson (Johnnie Faye), Patricia Anderson Jones and Magdalene Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Clara’s love for her family was immeasurable, and she lived by the words, “Love bears responsibility”, a sentiment that guided her through her life’s journey. A dedicated Christian, Clara’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active church member, finding joy in worship and in serving others. Her love for the Lord was evident in everything she did, and she passed these values to her children and grandchildren teaching them the importance of faith, family and compassion. As loving as she was candid, Clara’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith and resilience. She loved deeply, gave generously and always sought to uplift those around her. May she rest in peace surrounded by the love she so freely gave during her time with us.
