Sylacauga, Alabama - Mrs. Daisy Mae Coleman-Oden was born on September 23, 1948, in Yantley, Alabama. She peacefully made her transition on December 16, 2025, at the age of 77.
Affectionately known to all as Mrs. Daisy, she received her early education in Childersburg, Alabama, and was a proud graduate of the historic Phyllis Wheatley High School, Class of 1969. A lifelong supporter of her alma mater, Mrs. Daisy was a devoted member of the Phyllis Wheatley High School Alumni Association. She worked diligently alongside fellow alumni to preserve the school as a historical landmark and community center, ensuring it continued to serve the residents of Childersburg and the surrounding areas.
Mrs. Daisy was a faithful and devoted member of Joyful Noise AOH Church of God in Sylacauga, Alabama, where she served under the leadership of Bishop Johnnie L. Woods, Jr. A true servant of God, she consistently volunteered her time, talents, and heart to support the church and its many ministries, always willing to help wherever she was needed.
She dedicated many years of compassionate service to home health care in Sylacauga. Through her patience, kindness, and genuine concern for others, she touched the lives of countless individuals and families, leaving a lasting impression of love and dignity in her care.
Well known and widely admired for her exceptional culinary skills, Mrs. Daisy found great joy in cooking. She was often requested to prepare meals representing a wide variety of cuisines and could frequently be found in the kitchen cooking for family, friends, and neighbors. Her baking, especially her pies, cakes, and pastries, was a cherished delight to all who were fortunate enough to enjoy them.
During the spring and summer months, Mrs. Daisy took pride in growing her own vegetables and generously sharing her harvest with others. She also lovingly assisted family and friends with gardening projects, both indoors and outdoors. Her love for plants reflected her nurturing spirit, patience, and deep appreciation for nature.
Mrs. Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry H. Coleman and Arie Mae Coleman; her sisters, Annie D. Gamble and Pearline Thornton; and her brothers, Willie D. Coleman, John H. Coleman, and Roosevelt Coleman.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband, Samuel Lee Oden, Sr.; two sons, Samuel Lee Oden, Jr. and Bryant Keith Oden; one loving sister, Shirley Coleman Green; one brother, Simmie L. Coleman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Mrs. Daisy Mae Coleman-Oden will be remembered for her faith, generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for family, community, and God. Her legacy of service and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
