Sylacauga, Alabama - Damon Eugene Oden, affectionately known by many as “Doghead,” was born on May 9, 1978, in Jefferson County, Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Gary E. Oden and Veronica Wilson Oden.
Damon received his education in the Sylacauga City School System, attending both Sylacauga High School and B.B. Comer Memorial High School. He furthered his education by completing trade school for welding.
Throughout his life, Damon attended several Baptist churches as well as Kingdom Hall, where he developed a strong faith and appreciation for spiritual growth.
Damon was a dedicated and hardworking man. Over the years, he was employed with Russell Mills, Avondale Mills, Velcon Filters, and the Marble Quarry. Known for his skilled hands and resourceful spirit, Damon also worked locally as a welder and enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and bikes.
Even as a young boy, Damon showed signs of curiosity and talent. He once believed he was a doctor—giving his dogs “medicine” and practicing with syringes. Later, he became a little engineer at heart, taking apart televisions, radios, and cars just to see how they worked—then putting them back together again.
Those who knew Damon will remember him as a quiet, laid-back, and loving man. He had a heart to help anyone in need and never hesitated to lend a hand.
On October 12, 2025, Damon peacefully departed this walk of life in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary E. Oden; grandmothers, Ida Wilson and Thelma Oden; grandfathers, C.D. Oden and W.T. Wilson; daughter, Taliyah Oden; and nephew, John Wesley Ash, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: three beloved children, Maliyah Oden, Malik Oden, and Alexis (Chuck) Riley; his devoted mother, Veronica Oden; one sister, Shea Ash (John); one brother, Cedric (Catrina) Harrison; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Damon’s quiet strength, kind heart, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
