Deacon SJ Garrett was born to the late Sandy and Lena Calhoun Garrett April 23,1936 in Talladega County, Alabama.
At an early age Sandy (SJ) confessed Christ and joined the Africa Missionary Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to Tallassahatchie Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful Deacon, Cheerful Givers Society # 1 Treasurer and Male Chorus Member until his passing. As a young man, he was a skilled worker in the church and in the community doing carpentry work, electrical work and well water pump work. He was employed at various jobs throughout his life but Retired from Georgia Marble of Sylacauga, Alabama in 1999.
Deacon SJ Garrett was a gentle and quiet spirited man with a big smile who loved everyone.
On Tuesday January 12, 2021, Deacon SJ Garrett went home to his eternal rest while he was a patient at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.
Sandy (SJ) is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, seven sisters and his late wife.
He united in Holy Matrimony to the late Janie Ruth Swain Garrett in September of 1959 and to their union four children were born.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Michelle (David) Miller of Riverdale, Georgia, Beverly (Cedric) Dark of Childersburg, Alabama and Sandra (Millard) Syph of Buffalo, New York. Sons Dirk (Shawn) Garrett and Peair (Treace) Garrett of Childersburg, Alabama. Grandchildren: Bianca, David, Daesha, Jaqueta, Britney, DeShawna, Torry, LaKarre (Pavie), LaCourtney (Shayla), Jayla, Kishawn, Ke’Asia, George, Cherelle and Nicholas (Krystal). Great Grandchildren: Sanaa, Keethan, Kinley, Trenton, Cayson, Bryan, Kennadi, Addison, Cayson, River, Adrian, Isaiah and Izabella.
Brother-n-law Bobby (Carolyn) Oden of Childersburg, Alabama; a host of Nieces, Nephews other Relatives and a Special Friend Mrs. Linda Jones.
