Airman Demetrius Ladell Norwood, III, affectionately known as “Dee,” began his earthly journey on July 24, 2004, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a beloved son of the late Demetrius Ladell Norwood, Sr. and Selena Able, and was blessed to also be nurtured by his adopted mother, Sharon Harvey.
Dee repented of his sins and received the Holy Ghost at Apostolic Way Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church in Alabaster, Alabama. As a young worshipper, he could often be found joyfully mimicking the Pastor William J. Fitts, Sr. during passionate sermons. He later united with New Life Pentecostal Church in Columbiana, Alabama, continuing his devotion to God.
He was educated in the Shelby County School District and graduated with the Class of 2022 from Shelby County High School. During his time there, Dee shined both academically and athletically, participating in the football and baseball programs. He continued his education at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he also began an internship at the NASA Space Flight Center, pursuing his dreams with discipline and purpose.
Dee proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After successfully completing basic training, he served as a Service Journeyman. His dedication and excellence were recognized through several honors, including the Air and Space Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air and Space Training Ribbon.
On November 2, 2025, Dee departed this walk of life unexpectedly in Dade County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Demetrius L. Norwood, Sr.; his grandfather, Timothy Ray Brasher; and his great grandparents, Timothy and Nellie R. Brasher.
He leaves to cherish his life and legacy with his devoted mothers, Sharon Harvey of Wilsonville, Alabama, and Selena Able of Springville, Alabama, his loving siblings, Benjermin Jackson of Bessemer, Alabama, Demetrius L. Norwood, Jr. of Munford, Alabama, Savannah Pickett of Lincoln, Alabama, Alexiandria Pickett of Anniston, Alabama, Ja Michael Shephard, Jr. of Pell City, Alabama, and Krishonda and Krishon Sanders, both of Birmingham, Alabama; his grandmothers, Hollie Norwood Gilmore of Harpersville, Alabama, and Renay Rogers of Riverside, Alabama; two special aunts, Kimberly Norwood and Ursula (Warren) Davis, both of Harpersville, Alabama; special friend, David (Rachel) Smith and family, along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
He will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, airman, scholar, and friend whose legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
