Mr. Derrick “HeayD” Lamar Averette was born on March 13, 1972 to the parentage of Mr. Robert Averette, Sr. and the late Mrs. Loventrice Nix Averette.
Derrick united with New Hope Baptist Church at an early age, where he stood strong as a faithful member of the choir, Sunday School, and other organizations of the church.
Derrick, graduated from Sylacauga High School with the class of 1990. While attending school, he participated in football, basketball, baseball and was a part of percussion in the Aggie band. After he attended Central Alabama Community College (CACC) in Childersburg, Alabama. He was employed with Avondale Mills for many years, working in the computer room in the main office.
Along Derrick’s life’s journey, he met and united in Holy Matrimony to Thelma Elaine Nunn on January 30, 2008. To this union they joined five children and nine grandchildren, which he loved dearly.
In Derrick’s free time, he enjoyed having conversations with each grandchild and letting them know how much he loved them. He also enjoyed watching football with the kids. He was a great man of God who loved and enjoyed his family and friends.
Derrick departed this walk of life on June 8, 2021 under the care of Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his mother, Loventrice Nix Averette, his grandparents and other relatives.
His love and precious memories will forever be remembered and cherished by his loving wife, Minister Thelma Averette; loving father, Robert Averette Sr., three sons, Tyrese Powell, Tyreck Powell all of Sylacauga, AL; Christopher (Amy) Nunn of Alpine, AL; two daughters, Teneshia Nunn and Faith Nunn both of Sylacauga, AL; two brothers, Robert (Katrina) Averette, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; and Jeremiah (Monique) Averette of Birmingham, AL; nine grandchildren, Keon Driver, Keirra Driver, Keyvarius Driver, Aniah Morris, Gregory Nunn, Sherrica Nunn, Jaquan Nunn, Jimmy Nunn and Christopher Nunn; sixteen nieces, seven nephews, six great nieces, and fourteen great nephews and a host of aunts uncles other relatives and friends.
Robert and Thelma would like to express special appreciation to Donald “Flashlight” Porche for the extra help in the care of Mr. Averette.
