Donald Earl Crowe Obituary

Sylacauga, Alabama -  Donald Earl Crowe passed away on February 27, 2025. Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, on December 6, 1949, Donald lived most of his life in the community he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

Donald was the first African American to graduate from Fayetteville High School, a testament to his perseverance and dedication. After completing his education, he went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. Upon returning to Sylacauga, he built a successful business in the logging field, employing many from his community and providing for his family.

A man of deep faith, Donald served as a deacon for more than 30 years, sang in the male choir, and contributed to numerous church committees at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he remained deeply committed to his church family and community. Donald was a selfless, giving, and kind man who always put others first. Whether he was fishing, playing golf, cheering on the Crimson Tide, or spending time with loved ones, he was known for his warm heart and dedication to those around him. A pillar of his community, he led with compassion, integrity and an unwavering belief in God.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, N.C. Crowe and Hazel Lee Vincent Crowe, brother, R.C. Crowe, and sister, Fannie Crowe Patterson.

Donald leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen Wilson Crowe and four children: Derrell Crowe, Tomeka Crowe Cherry (Pedro), Fran Crowe, and Dawn Patterson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Peyton Cherry, Preston Cherry, Tyrin Mosby (Abrianna), Taylor Mosby, Mason Byrd, Donovan Crowe, Torranique Patterson, D'Ambriell Patterson, and Justice Patterson, as well as his great-grandchildren: Raelyn Wynn, Sinai Mosby, and Sevyn Mosby; his loving brothers, Jerry (Ruthie) Crowe, and Harry (Vickie) Crowe; his loving sisters, Josie (David) Walls, Annie Sterns, Lue Neal (John Milton) Wilson, Rita (Rev. Robert) Russell, Margaret (Lynn) Foster, Martha (Xavier) McKinney, and Cynthia (Udo) Geesken; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends..

Donald’s legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Celebration of life for Donald Earl Crowe, age 75, will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00PM at Friendship Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama.  Pastor Robert L. Russell, Eulogist.  Interment will commence in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylacauga, Alabama. Public viewing will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
