Donnie Shawn Smith

Donnie Shawn Smith of Sylacauga, Alabama was born 59 years ago, on January 16, 1965.  He was the beloved son of Donald McElrath and the late Judy Faye Smith Pope. 

Donnie was affectionally known as “Bone” by many family and friends.  He was a product of Sylacauga High School and graduated with the class of 1983.  shortly after receiving his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy. 

Donnie served four years in the Navy, and received a honorable discharge.  While his tenue in the Navy he received the Unit Commendation Award, The Battle Efficiency Award, and The Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. 

Donnie confessed his life to Christ and joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama.  He was a faithful and devoted member, until his illness. 

On Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 11:50AM, Donnie S. Smith transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord.  He was preceded in death by a host of family members. 

Donnie’s love will forever be cherished by a loving father, Donald (Carolyn) McElrath; loving son, Demarco Smith of Liz, Austria; two brothers, Darion McElrath and Brian McElrath both of Akron, Ohio; five grandchildren, Melinda Smith, Andrew Smith, Dewayne Smith, Ace Smith, and Lucy Smith all of Liz, Austria; a very loving aunt as a mother, Mary Jean (Carson) Smith-Taylor of Sylacauga, Alabama; very special friend, Fe Praxl; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
