Mr. Dontez Lamar (Jap) Garrett was born on January 25th, 2000 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the parentage of Curtis Lamar Garrett and Valerie Lashandra Garrett. Dontez was affectionately known as Jap by his family and friends. He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age and united with Shiloh Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama.
Jap, received his formal education in the Talladega County School System and attended B.B. Comer Memorial High School, Sylacauga, Alabama.
Jap was humorous and full of laughter, loved making and telling jokes. He had a smile that could light up a room. In 2018 Jap's life changed when he became a father to Messiah Jenkins.
Jap departed this walk of life on September 25th, 2022 in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry Arthur Curry and Elijah Kendricks.
His love will forever be cherished by his loving parents, Curtis (Valerie) Garrett of Sylacauga, AL; one son, Messiah Jenkins; loving girlfriend, LaDajia Scott; three brothers, Martez Garrett, Cortez Garrett, and Markel Borden all of Sylacauga, AL; four sisters, Desharia Barns of Alexander City, AL, Kasina Moon, Shareka Johnson, Sarah Borden all of Sylacauga, AL; two grandmothers, Ethel Jean Kendricks of Sylacauga, AL and Linda Jean Curry of Childersburg, AL; grandfather, Matthew Davis; grandmother, Johnny Mae Munford of Sylacauga, AL; four aunts, Belinda Curry, Talequa Curry both of Childersburg, AL, Melody Sims, and Debrah Brownfield both of Sylacauga, AL; four uncles, Christopher (Lakisha) Wilson, Conorda (Chandreca) Wilson both of Sylacauga, AL, Samuel (Pamela) Garrett of Vincent, AL, and Toney Curry of Childersburg, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
