Sylacauga, Alabama - Dorothy Ann Crayton-Battle, affectionately known as “Dot,” was born on November 22, 1949, in Vincent, Alabama, to the late Ben and Maggie P. Crayton. She peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by love.
Dot accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized by Reverend Kidd of Baker’s Grove Baptist Church in Harpersville, Alabama. She later became a devoted and active member of Tallassahatchie Missionary Baptist Church in Childersburg, Alabama, where she faithfully served as a Deaconess, a member of the Cheerful Giver Society, and a part of the kitchen staff.
Dot received her education at Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg, Alabama, graduating with the Class of 1969. She began her professional journey at Avondale Mills and subsequently transitioned into management for the State of Alabama. Her dedication and excellence were recognized upon her retirement, when she received a Certificate of Recognition from Governor Robert Bentley in honor of 23 years of loyal service.
Dot was known for her kind heart, sharp mind, and generous spirit. Highly intelligent and quick-witted, she approached life with honesty, integrity, and perseverance. A natural leader, she led by example and held herself to the highest standards in every task she undertook. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Gifted with many talents, Dot enjoyed sewing and lovingly crafted adaptive clothing for her mother during her dialysis treatments. She was famous throughout the East Coast for her delicious cakes, sugar cookies, pies, and peanut brittle. She also loved reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing word games. Her passion for self-education made her a trusted source of knowledge on a wide range of topics.
