On March 7, 1961, Dorothy Ethelene Oden made her grand entrance into this world to the late Arah Player Oden and Willie Dorothy Oden. She grew up in the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga, AL. She attended Sylacauga High School, where she graduated in the year 1979.
After graduating high School, Dorothy attended Alabama A&M University. There she received certification as an LPN nurse. During that time, she met LeeRoy Smoot, Sr. whom she married in 1984. To this matrimony they had three children, Krystal (Adam), Danell (ZaKeea), and Daniel who reside in Sylacauga, as well as two step sons, Quinton (Quita) Lineville, and LeeRoy, Jr. Smoot (Rikkila) Millersville. She worked as an LPN at Sylacauga Health Care for many years. Then she was an insurance agent for Protective Industrial Insurance Company for a few years. Then she joined La Petite Academy Daycare Center until her untimely illness in 2007. She was the life of the party; she brought smiles, and laughter to those she knew and met along the way. Dorothy also, grew relationships with the youth of Rising Star Baptist Church as she was an active volunteer worker with the youth of the church, until her illness. She enjoyed spoiling her grandbabies, Ashton, Ashanti, and Da'Kayla, Tania, Jabari, Kagan, and Quinton, Jr.
On December 29, 2023, God called his humble servant home. She leaves to cherish her memories with her sisters: Phyllis A. Jordan of Alexandria, VA and Vanessa G.
