Mrs. Dorothy Minnie Jo Brager-Rhoden earthly journey began on June 20, 1934, in Wilsonville, Alabama to the parents of James Gibson Brasher and Annie Pearl Wilson-Brasher. She was affectionately known by family and friends as “Aunt Dot” or “Mama Dot”.
Dorothy received Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age, one Friday night she was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Nathaniel Hall, at Dry Branch Baptist Church, now known as First Baptist Church, Wilsonville, Alabama. Later in August 1952 she united with Enon Missionary Baptist Church, Childersburg, Alabama, under the leadership of the late P.E. Kidd. She served as a Missionary Worker, sang in the senior choir, and later became the mother of the Church.
She received her formal education at Shelby County Training, Columbiana, Alabama. She graduated with the class of 1952. After receiving her education, she was employed at Dr. Stock Medical Office, Barnett Mill and White Night Mill.
Along Dorothy’s life’s journey she met the Love of her life and united in Holy Matrimony to the late Fred Rhoden on July 22, 1952.
After her retirement she had great joy in babysitting and had a passion for planting and growing flowers in her home and yard. She loved watching her favorite TV shows, The Price is Right, Wheeler Fortune, and Family Feud. She also enjoyed cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. She loved to entertain her family and friends and would always quote before you leave, “I love you, a bushel and a peck, and a hug around your neck” and “I may be cripple, I may be lame, but I come running in Jesus name”.
She departed this walk of life on January 20, 2024, under the care of Coosa Valley Medical Center, Sylacauga, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rhoden, parents, James Gibson Brasher, and Annie Pearl Brasher, five sisters, Lerease Mitchell, Ella Lee Spates, Annie Pearl Farly, Ester R. Baxley, and Johnnie Mae Brasher, seven brothers, Willie L. Brazier, Lawrence Brasher, Charlie Brasher, Walter Brasher, Leon Brager, William D. Brager, and Jimmy L. Brasher.
Dorothy’s love will forever be cherished by her loving and devoted nieces, Carolyn B. (Charles) Woods, Thelma Brooks, Sylvia A. Braizer, Angela Fraizer, Jackie Hall, A. Lenora Wallace, Raveen Hearn, and Carolyn D. (Willie) Wyoff; loving and devoted nephews, Gregory Wallace, Uliss (Teresa) Wallace, Douglas (Gloria) Wallace, and Charles C. Woods; special Godchildren, Brenda (Ralph) Lylias, Annetta (Lesley) Smitherman, Andrea (James) Morris, Sandra K. Evans, Annetta Cohill, Arthur (Peggy) Wallace, Ory McGinnis, Jr., and Frank (Elaine) Black; sister-in-law, Inez Earl; brother-in-law, Ocie Rhoden, Jr..; and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
