Douglas W. Harris affectionately known as Bobo, was born on October 2nd, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama, to the parentage of the late Otis Harris, Sr. and Elma Means Harris. He was the sixth child of ten children. He attended Robertstown Elementary and later graduated from Brighton High School. He confessed to Christ and united with Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age. Bobo later united and became a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Harpersville, Alabama. He was a devoted member of the male chorus. Singing became a passion that he loved and he became a member of the Unity Male Chorus Choir.
In 1968, he enlisted into the United States Army, where he served and fought in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970 due to his injury while in combat. He received the honorable Purple Heart for his service. He was very proud of his service status.
After serving this country, he went to further his education and attended Lawson Community College where he mastered the art of welding and upholstery. He began his working career and became a dedicated employee with Stockham Valves and Fitting for 28 years, where he held the title of millwright. He was dedicated to his job until it shut its doors for the final time. He loved to work and was truly a hard worker, and was later employed by Cahaba Lumber Company, Coca Cola, C&D Welding, where he served as owner and RAM Environmental Technologies which he remained a faithful employee until his departure.
Bobo transitioned this life on June 22, 2022 under the care of Grandview Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, after battling a long time illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kimberly, two brothers, Otis Harris, Jr. (Henrietta) and James Griffin, one sister, Odelia Burrell (Joe).
His love will forever be cherished by his loving devoted wife, Carol Harris; three daughters, Christy, Tondrian, and Tacarra; three sons, Travis, Roderick and Otha; ten grandchildren, Mykia, Devin, Gabrielle, Cierra, Brayden, Ty’Asia, Madisyn, MacKenzie, Malachi, and Azariyah; four brothers, Fronical Harris (DeLorse) of McCalla, AL, Leonard Harris (Muriel) of Southfield, MI, Lionel Means (Eartha) of Irondale, AL, and Norman Means (Berelene) of Fairfield, AL; two sisters, Rosa Taylor (Lee) of Akron, OH and Veronica McBride (Frank) of Jamaica, NY; special best friends, Alvin S., Jimmy Macon, and James McKinney; and a host of nieces, nephews, sister in laws, brother in laws, other relatives and friends.
