Earnestine (Cricket) McKinney Norwood Obituary

Mrs. Earnestine McKinney Norwood was born on July 8th, 1948, to the union of James McKinney and Beatrice Chancellor McKinney in Harpersville, Alabama.

Mrs. Earnestine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Harpersville, Alabama.  Later in life she united with Freewill Church of God in Christ, Harpersville, Alabama.  Mrs. Norwood was a faithful member and served as head of the Usher Board, president of the Y.W.C.C., treasure of the Christmas Saving Club, and the church secretary under the leadership of Pastor Earnest Norwood. 

Along Earnestine’s life journey she met and united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Jake Norwood, to this union no children were born.  In 1990 she became guardian of five nieces, Sharon (Charles) Rogers, Tracey Robertson, Vanetta Kelley all of Harpersville, AL, and Alison (Marvin) Lathon of Piney Woods, AL.  She was affectionately known by her family and close friends as “Cricket”.

Mrs. Earnestine departed this walk of life on December 17, 2021, at her residence, Harpersville, Alabama.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jake Norwood, parents, James McKinney and Beatrice Chancellor McKinney, three brothers, one sister, and one niece.

Mrs. Earnestine love and memories will forever be cherished by four sisters, Ruby (Curtis) Russell of Florence, AL; Teresa McKinney, Sue Ella McKinney, and Cassandra McKinney all of Harpersville, AL; one brother, Curtis McKinney of Harpersville, AL; one aunt, Bonnie Threatt of Sylacauga, AL; twelve nephews, eleven nieces, six great nephews, eighteen great nieces, four sisters in laws, three brother in laws, and a host of other relatives and friends.
