Mr. Gannite Jamal McGregor, affectionately known as “Jam”, began to shine on July 31, 1985, born to Gannite O. and Juliette McGregor in Talladega, Alabama. He entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2024.
Jamal confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga, AL where he actively served as drummer and choir member. He later became a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cromwell, AL where he was ordained as a deacon, served on praise and worship, choir, male chorus, and trustee ministries. Jamal found his spiritual home under the leadership of Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church in Eastaboga, AL.
He received his education from B.B. Comer Memorial Elementary and graduated from B. B. Comer Memorial High School in 2002. He furthered his education and graduated from Central Alabama Community College. He was a dedicated employee but found his love for trucking and became the owner and operator of Life Is A Journey Transportation, LLC.
Jamal married Lakesha Wilson on June 6, 2015. To this union two beautiful children were born and created the loving family he always wanted. He was and will forever be the most awesome father his girls could ever dream of. His family was his pride and joy.
Loving, big hearted, caring, smart, funny, energetic, and devoted family man are just a few words that could be used to describe the handsome man known as Jamal.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ethel Mae Spidell, Willie Shephard, Jr., Horace Oden, and Georgia McGregor.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his beloved wife Lakesha; Two daughters Journee Kamelle and Emeriee Rose of Eastaboga, AL. Parents: Juliette Russell of Sylacauga, AL; Gannite and Cleatrice McGregor of Powder Springs, GA. Grandmother: Mary Shephard of Atlanta, GA. Mother-in-law: Lillian (Harvey) Wynn; Father-in-law: John Calhoun of Munford, AL. Two sisters: Sherrel (Ronzenski) Kirkland and Kemiah McGregor of Sylacauga, AL. Two brothers: Tyriq McGregor and Tyae McGregor of Sylacauga, AL. Sister-in-laws: Barbara Wilson and Elinda Wilson of Munford, AL; Jennifer (Victor) Kirk, Teresa Calhoun of Opelika, AL; and Yolanda Knight of New York. Brother-in-laws: Johnny Calhoun of Munford, AL and John Calhoun of Opelika, AL. Special Brothers: Rober Russell, Corey Crowe, Jamal Adair, Antrell Kidd, Cedric Kidd, Anthony Cook, Michael McGregor, Troy Carter, Christopher Cook, Grady Cook, Jeremy McKinney, Frankie Pope, Robert Hollinquest, Dexter Hale, Terrance Evans, and Trevor Averiette. And a great host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other close relatives that truly loved him.
