George Paul Sylmon was born on June 17, 1945 to the late Sislie B. Sylmon Wilkerson and George Sylmon in Alpine, Alabama. He was affectionately called “Bodie” by family and friends.
Mr. Sylmon family relocated to Sylacauga, Alabama where he received his education in the Talladega County School System. Shortly after graduating he moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he met and united in Holy Matrimony to Darnella Hodge on March 31, 1971.
Mr. Sylmon was faithfully employed with Standard Recycling for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, fishing and picking wild fruits.
George departed this walk of life on June 13, 2025 under the care of Ridgeway Rehabilitation & Senior Center, Bessmer, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Darnella Hodge Sylmon, son, Milton Hodge, parents, siblings, Carrie White, Betty Pope, Lucy Harris, Lottie Whiteside, Susie Sylmon, Mullis Sylmon, and Alexander Wilkerson, one granddaughter, Alicia Hodge.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, loving daughters, Paula (Eric) Cole of Birmingham, AL, and Cassandra Hodge of Birmingham, AL; loving son, Lesley (Ingrid) Hodge of Midfield, AL; grandchildren, Eric Cole, II, Darnella Cole, Kaytlyn Cole, Cordero Rich, and Autumn Mack; loving sisters, Vinnie Leonard and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
