Gloria Jean “Chip” Johnson Jeffries earthly journey began on March 17, 1953 to the parentage of the late William McKinley Johnson and the late Barbara Jean Johnson in Childersburg, Alabama.
At an early age, Gloria, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Enon Missionary Baptist Church, Childersburg, Alabama. Later in life, she became a member and worshiped with Pleasant Valley CME Church, Childersburg, Alabama. Where she served on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee.
As a child, Gloria was educated in the Talladega County School System, attending Phyllis Wheatley High School. She later moved to Albany, New York where she attended and graduated from St. Joseph Academy. She further her education at University of Albany and Albany Business College where she majored in Business. Later in life she attended Virginia College, Birmingham, Alabama, where she majored in Medical Billing and Coding.
Along Gloria's life’s journey she was a dedicated employee with the Social Security Administration for 30 plus years until her retirement. She enjoyed her successful career working with the Government in various roles. Gloria was an extraordinary mother and grandmother, her focus was always on her faith, family and welfare of children. A quote by Rose Kennedy about a raising a family is befitting of her, (I looked on child rearing not only as a work of love and duty but as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world and one that demanded that I could bring to it), she was a avid reader and music lover, she also enjoyed traveling, watching movies, sports and making care packages for the homeless with her daughter.
After a blessed life of 68 years Gloria gained her angel wings on March 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, under the care of the wonderful staff of Hildebrandt Hospice Care in Rochester, New York. She was blessed with love and prayers from those who were unable to be present by her side while she made the glorious journey to the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters.
Her love and fun memories will always be remembered and cherished by her devoted caretaker and daughter, Telicia S. Smith and beloved grandson, Tyreif S. A. Robinson; three brothers, Clayton (Jonetta) Jews, Willie James Wright, and Ben Paul (Glenda) Wright; four sisters. Alice Faye Johnson, Nina (Eugene) Marbury, Ann Johnson, and Angela (Jeff) Ruddish; a very special sister, Susie B. McElrath, two best (sister-friends) Geraldine Hart and Phyllis Rhoden, two ( great-God kids), Lykeria McMillan and Christopher Hall, two uncles, Melvin Hamilton and James Crowe, four aunts; Hattie Crowe, Ann Marie Brace, Katie Lawson, Willie B.
