Horace Jerome Wilson

Sylacauga, Alabama -  A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is still, and a place is vacant in our home that can never be filled.  On October 8, 1953, through God’s grace, the late Earnest and Delois welcomed and became the proud parents to Horace Jerome Wilson.  He was loving, courteous, pleasant, and a joy to be around. 

Affectionately known as “Rome” accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age.  He became a faithful member of Harper Springs Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama.  Horace was a part of Harper Springs Male and Mass Choir.  He began his education at R.R. Moton High School in Sycamore, Alabama.  Later he was enrolled at B.B. Comer Memorial High School, where he excelled in his academics and graduated with the class of 1972. 

Shortly after graduating, Horace was employed with Avondale Mills in Bon Air, Alabama.  Later he became a dedicated employee with Master Brand Cabinets, until his health declined.  He loved to watch and cheer on the Auburn Tigers Football and basketball team, in his spare time.  Horace loved music and loved to sing. 

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Horace accepted God’s gentle hand, as he called him home at his residence surrounded by family and hospice.  He was preceded in death and will reunite with his father, Ernest Wilson, grandparents, Essie Leonard, Willie Leonard, George and Hattie Wilson, and great nephew, Jason Anthony Swain, Jr.

Horace beacon of light will continue to shine on through the lives of those he loved and those who loved him, his loving mother, Delois Wilson of Sylacauga, AL; siblings, Marsha Wilson, Dale Wilson, Lewis Anthony (Samantha) Wilson, and Yolanda Wilson all of Sylacauga, AL; aunts and uncles, Mary Tuck, Patricia Leonard, Betty (Odean) Tuck, James Robert (Annie) Leonard, Clarence (Diane) Leonard, Rev. Matthew (Shirley) Leonard, and Donnie (Mary) Leonard all of Sylacauga, AL; nieces and nephews, Sabrina Wynn of Talladega, AL, Jason Swain, Chawntia Jordan, Jamal Wilson, and very special niece, Imari Wilson all of Sylacauga, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life for Mr. Horace Jerome Wilson, age 71, will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 12:00 Noon, at Harper Springs Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama. Pastor Matthew Leonard, Eulogist.  Interment will commence in the Harper Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylacauga, AL.  Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
