Ina Beatrice Wesley, affectionately known as “Bea” peacefully departed this earthly journey on June 14,2025, at the age of 72 surrounded by family and loved ones. Ina lived a full life with a rewarding career in Tuscaloosa, AL and upon retirement, returned home to Childersburg, Alabama, the same cherished town that had welcomed her birth on August 22, 1952.
Born to the proud union of Booker T. Wesley, Sr. and Lillie G. Wesley, Ina grew up in a home rich with love and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Booker T. Wesley, Jr., Wilbert Wesley, and Otis Wesley, her beloved sisters Lillie Wesley Jackson and Annie Wesley Heath. Left to cherish Ina’s memory are her devoted son, Bronski Lamod Wesley, Childersburg, AL (Formerly of Okeechobee, FL), and loving sisters Willie Belle Wesley of Columbus, Ohio and Geraldine (Charles) Barnett of Childersburg, AL, Honorary sister, Nellye Heath, of Alpine, AL along with a host of nieces, great-nieces and great-great nieces, nephews, great-nephews and a great-great nephew, cousins and friends, who were family at heart.
Ever dedicated to education, Ina proudly graduated from Childersburg High School, Class of 1970 (by way of Phyllis Wheatley High School) before completing her bachelor’s degree at Talladega College in 1975. It was there that she was initiated into the esteemed sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in the Fall of 1973.
A woman of quiet strength and humility, Ina possessed a bright smile that warmed hearts, a tenderhearted spirit, and a kind, soft-spoken disposition. With a compassionate and considerate nature, she made sure that everyone she encountered felt respected, valued, and deeply loved.
Her caring soul touched many lives during her career assisting patients and staff at Bryce Mental Hospital, from which she retired after years of exemplary service. Beyond her professional endeavors, she was a dedicated member of the Tallassahatchie Missionary Baptist Church, and the Cheerful Givers Society #1, where her gentle soul and helpful nature shone brightly.
Ina lived a life rich in community and fellowship including participation in organizations, namely the Talladega County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (through which she received her 50 years of service honorarium), Talladega County Chapter of Talladega College Alumni Association, and served as a loyal alumnus of the Phyllis Wheatley Alumni Association. Her energy and warmth enriched each gathering and meeting she attended.
In her moments of leisure, Ina found joy in the simplest of pleasures: a game of Bid Whist, the thrill of Jeopardy, the nostalgia of Wheel of Fortune and the hysterics of Steve Harvey and Family Feud. Her sports enthusiasm transitioned from active participation to avid spectating in later years. She also cherished listening and dancing to her favorite music and treasured moments vacationing and visiting family and friends. Her heart was undeniably golden, and her peaceful, loving presence was a gift to all who knew her.
As we celebrate Ina’s beautiful life, let us embrace the comforting words of the poems, “Her Journey’s Just Begun” and “God’s Garden,” reminding us of her gentle transition to eternal peace, and the enduring love and memories she imparted to us all.
