Sylacauga, Alabama - A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is still, and a place is vacant in our home that can never be filled. On August 10, 1937, in Camp Hill, Alabama, Clemmie Russell and Mattie Hutchinson Russell were blessed with the birth of Inez Russell. Inez was one of four children in the Russell family. Inez gained her Heavenly wings on October 28, 2024, at Coosa Valley Healthcare Center.
At an early age, Inez was baptized and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Hope Baptist Church in Camp Hill, Alabama. She was loved and nurtured through the years while developing into early adulthood. Inez found satisfaction in becoming proactive spiritually and academically. Her desire to thrive with excellence was her foremost objective in school. She was a graduate at Edward Bell High School, home of the “Bears” in Camp Hill, Alabama.
Along Inez’s life’s journey she met and united in Holy Matrimony to the late Thurston Leonard. This union brought them great joy and happiness within themselves until he departed this walk of life on March 22, 1999.
Inez was a loving sister, aunt, Godmother, and friend. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama. Inez loved to clean homes throughout the Sylacauga Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clemmie Russell and Mattie H. Russell, her brothers, Theodore Russell and Henry Russell, her beloved husband, Thurston Leonard. Her love will forever be cherished by her loving sister, Mary P. Reeder of Camp Hill, AL; two loving nephews, Tommy Joe Reeder of Opelika, AL and Sandy Fornester of Camp Hill, AL; Goddaughter, Monica (Keith) Floyd of Montgomery, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
