James Earon Averette began his earthly life on June 19, 1946 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the parents of Henry W. Averette and Christine McElrath Averette. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; affectionately known as Jimmy. He joined his parents, grandparents, wife, Odell W. Averette, sister, Roberta Ann Williams, brother, Henry F. Averette, Sr. and other relatives in his heavenly transition on July 6, 2023.
Jimmy accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and united with New Hope Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until his health declined.
Jimmy received his education in the Sylacauga City School System and graduated from East Highland High School with the class of 1966. Shortly after receiving his education, he was employed with Avondale Mills and retired with over 35 years of dedicated service.
Along Jimmy’s life’s journey he met and united in holy matrimony to Odell Wallace on October 25, 1973, to this union God blessed them with four beautiful children.
Jimmy and his brother, Henry (Frank) Averette had a passion for softball and started the Coaling Road Youth Softball League. They played against other neighborhoods during the summertime at Drew Court Softball field. Jimmy enjoyed watching sports, especially college football. He was a lover of nature. He had a passion for hunting and fishing with his family and friends in Fayetteville, Alabama. He enjoyed planting flowers and vegetables throughout his yard. On his off days, he cooked a big breakfast and dinner for his children and often fried fish or barbecue for close family and friends. He loved to drive around the neighborhoods of Sylacauga, in his white “Monte Carlo” listening to his oldies goldies music. He was a great father, hard worker, and an important figure to many in the community.
Jimmy’s love will forever be cherished by two sons, Gregory Averette, and Christopher Averette; two daughters, Michelle (Johnathan) Ratliff and Angel (Christopher) Powell all of Sylacauga, AL; two brothers, Billy Ross Averette, Sr. and Robert V. Averette, Sr. all of Sylacauga, AL; one sister, Alice Faye Porch of Sylacauga, AL; eleven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
