Goodwater, Alabama - Mr. James Leon Dixon was born on December 6, 1953 to the parentage of the late Robert Dixon and Christine Manns in Hartford, Connecticut. He gained his Heavenly wings on October 9, 2024 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama. Surrounded by family, his last words were “I’m a soldier”.
James had a love for Jesus Christ and his faith in God was unwavering. He worshipped with Christ Temple and Hollins Springs Baptist Church. After receiving his education, James enlisted in the United States Army, where he was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1973.
After serving the country, James worked as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, for many years. He united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Linda Ann Oliver. This union brought great joy and happiness to themselves. He loved his family and enjoyed family time. In his spare time, he loved watching sports, wrestling, and movies. He often loved to dance and play his guitar.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Christine Manns and Robert Dixon and his siblings. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Linda Ann Dixon; his children, LiTanya Dixon, James Dixon, Jasmine Averette and Isaiah Dixon; four siblings, Carolyn Jackson, Richard Manns, Betty Dixon, and Joanne Hodges; grandchildren, Willie Meadows, Anthony Dixon, Darius Dixon, Lexi Averette, Za’nyla Dixon, and Lyric Brownfield; great grandchildren, Jaiden Dixon and Ayla Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life for James Leon Dixon, age 70, will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:30AM at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Sylacauga, Alabama. Minister Donald Caldwell, Eulogist. Interment will commence in the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Community Funeral Home.
