John Leon Player

Sylacauga, AL -  Celebration of Life for Mr. John Leon Player, age 81, will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Sylacauga, AL. Rev. Calvin Cunningham, officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 - 1:00PM to 7:00PM, family hour 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. 

John Leon Player journey began on November 8, 1939 to the parentage of the late Matthew Player and Geneva Patterson, in Alabama.

At an early age, John, a beloved father, and grandfather, accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama.  As a child, John was educated in the Sylacauga School System and graduated from East Highland High School. 

John was a dedicated employee with Sylacauga Hospital for 21 years.  Later John worked and retired from Michelin Tire Company of Birmingham, Alabama.

John accepted the Masters Call on Friday evening, February 26, 2021, under the care of North Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Birmingham, Alabama. Welcoming John into his heavenly home was his parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

His love and fun memories will always be remember and cherished by his children, Mary Leonard of Sylacauga, AL; Fritz M. Player of Sylacauga, AL; April (Larry) Orr of Oxford, AL; and Seneca (Melanie) Knight of Los Angeles, CA; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one uncle, Rev. Gregory (Tara) Patterson of Sylacauga, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
