John Oscar Morris Obituary

Sylacauga, Alabama -  Mr. John Oscar Morris was born on October 24, 1953 in Talladega County, Alabama. He was the beloved son of the late John L. Morris and Jessie N. Chatman. John departed this walk of life on April 2, 2025 at his residence in Sylacauga, Alabama.

John was affectionately known as Morris Squad.  He was educated and attended the Talladega County School System, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of service and achievement.  After receiving his education, he was blessed with many job opportunities with Gantt’s Quarry (Imerys Quarry), Avondale Mill, Inc., Double Cola, Delta Security, Bemiston, and Budweiser.

John was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and was better known as “Paw Paw”, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John Oscar met Diane Powell in 1972 and married the love of his life in 1978.  His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, endurance and his unwavering faith in God.  His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.  We remember him not the way his life ended, but the way it was truly lived.

John Oscar had a passion for racing cars, fishing, watching old Western Movies, and spending quality time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He enjoyed dancing to music of all kinds. And will be remembered for his compassion for others, his funny stories, and his heart of a warrior which never backed down from anything.

He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Morris, sister, Janice Morris, and daughter, Latoya Diane Morris.

John Oscar leaves to cherish his memories the love of his life, Diane Morris of Sylacauga, AL; three sons, Derrick Powell of Sylacauga, AL, Johnathon Morris (Priscilla Chapman) of Sylacauga, AL, and Robert (Brandy) Morris of Sylacauga, AL; two loving daughters, Tara (Jafondric) Davis of Childersburg, AL, and Rashema (Tony) Roberson of Wellington, AL; a loving mother, Jessie Nell Morris; one loving brother, Eddie (Brenda) Morris; granddaughters, Deja Spears, Samya Morris, Jasmine Thomas, Markaysha Thomas, Yasmine Alexander and Harley Haney; grandsons, Tyreke Watts, Woody Haney, and Lodan Haney; two great grandchildren, Messiah Spears, and Khazo Thomas; special nieces, and nephews, Keon (Kim) Morris, Kanethia Morris, and Jamie (Tiffany) Morris; nieces, and nephews, Zion Morris, Chase Morris, Ricketha Powell, Nikieylah Johnson, Guanita Caldwell, Debra Peterson, Anthony Peterson and Rontera Powell; brother in law, Rickey Powell and one sister in law, Mary Peterson; A host of other relatives and friends.
