Katherine Oden Obituary

Sylacauga, Alabama - Ms. Katherine Oden was born April 28, 1949 to the parentage of the late Mr. Jake Grady Oden and Mrs. Jabie Mae Oden in Sylacauga, Alabama.

At an early age, she gave her life to Christ at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama, under the leadership of Reverend R. L. McKinney. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. After some time, she united with Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Manuel Smith III.

Eventually, she returned home to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she worshiped faithfully under the leadership of Reverend Kendell Burton. There, she remained a devoted and steadfast member until the Lord called her home.

She was a graduate of East Highland School in Sylacauga, Alabama.

She faithfully served for many years with the Sylacauga City School System as a dedicated Child Nutrition Program (CNP) worker, where she took pride in helping nourish and care for the children in her community. After her retirement, her strong work ethic and warm spirit led her to continue serving others for many years at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Sylacauga and Childersburg, Alabama. Whether in the school cafeteria or greeting customers with her familiar presence, she found joy in working and in connecting with the people around her.

Though she was often seen as a strong and determined woman, those who truly knew her understood that her strength was matched by an incredibly tender heart. She had a special love or encouraging and uplifting young women, always wanting them to see their worth and walk confidently in their purpose. For many years, she dedicated her time and guidance to the youth of Delta Zeta Pi teen sorority in Sylacauga, Alabama, pouring wisdom, support, and care into the next generation.

Her firm, no-nonsense demeanor could sometimes be misunderstood, but beneath it was a heart full of warmth, loyalty, and unwavering love. To her family, friends, and all who took the time to know her, she was compassionate, generous, and fiercely devoted — a woman who loved deeply and showed up wholeheartedly for the people she cherished.

On Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, Ms. Oden peacefully answered the Master’s call and went home to be with her Heavenly Father.

Ms. Oden was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kenyotta Christopher Oden; her parents, one brother, Charles Oden; and three sisters, Juliette Powers, Gwendolyn Moon, and Patricia White. Though she deeply felt their absence, she carried their love in her heart always.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her unsparing daughter, Krystal (Terrance) Oden-Seals; two loving grandchildren, Abisayo Oden and Zalen Seals, whom she adored beyond measure; and one treasured great-grandson, Aiven Stamps, who brought immeasurable joy to her life, all of Visalia, California.

She also leaves behind three dear sisters, Annie Jean Oden, Mary Elizabeth Oden, and Sandra Oden (Patrick) Toney, all of Sylacauga, Alabama; one brother, Willie Frank Oden of Chelsea, Alabama; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, including Layunite Estell, Marcella Bonner, and Jean Taylor. All of whom will forever hold her love and legacy close to their hearts.
