King David Crumpler, Jr. was born January 3, 1949, in Sylacauga, Alabama, the only son of King David Crumpler, Sr. and Edna Lucille Wilson Crumpler.
KD joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age and was actively involved during his youth, teenage years, and in time during breaks from college.
King David was a graduate of the East Highland High School class of 1966, received the Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State University in 1970, earned his Master of Education from Wayne State University in Michigan in 1972, and completed post-graduate work at Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas. Contributing to the education of our youth would be his profession for almost 40 years, making an impact in the lives of children in the states of Michigan and Texas before retiring from the Houston Independent School District in 2012. Throughout his career, he held many professional affiliations, including the Houston Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, the Texas State Teachers Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English and Reading. He was also a member of the Talladega County Area Chapter of Alabama State University, Alabama State University National Alumni Association and East Highland High School Alumni Association.
King David had a way with words and was blessed to share them with his family, friends, and many acquaintances when he published This Day and Night Never Comes in 2004. He offered commentary on this collection of his favorite bible verses. He said this selection of scriptures “encourages a person to use or step out on faith, to become more in life, and receive more of what Almighty God has to supernaturally offer all humanity”.
He was a faithful member of the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church of Houston, Texas. Once moving home, he continued to worship in Bible Study, Sunday services, Revival and Wednesday morning prayer calls.
King David answered God’s call on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, King David Crumpler, Sr., and Edna Lucille Crumpler; and his brothers-in-law, George Gaines, and Willie Samuel Garrett.
Among those who remain to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are sisters, Ernestine Garrett of Staten Island, New York, and Glenda Gaines of Sylacauga, Alabama; nephews, Terrence Garrett of Staten Island, New York, and Tarek Garrett of Rochester, New York; niece, LaShandra Gray of Birmingham, AL; uncles, Willie Frank (Betty) Wilson and Houston Wilson, both of Sylacauga, Alabama; aunts, Colevia (Charles) Williams of Leesburg, Georgia, Claudette Harrison, Willow Dean Wilson and Maudie Wilson all of Sylacauga, Alabama; great nieces and nephews, Diamond, Tyjene, Jalen, Michaela, Kennedy, Tyler and Tarek; the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church family, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
