Larry Avery, Sr. Obituary

Larry Avery, Sr. earthly journey began on February 17, 1951 in Wilsonville, AL to the parentage of Joesph Avery, Sr. and Gertrude Waites-Avery.

Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and united with First Baptist Church in Wilsonville, Alabama. As an youth he was educated in the Shelby County Training School and  graduated from Shelby County High school with the class of 1970.

Shortly after graduating, Larry obtained his CDL's in NY and work as a truck driver for many years, traveling the country. Along Larry’s life’s journey he united in Holy Matrimony, and to the union two sons were born. Years later came his beautiful daughter.

He lived a full life working different professions such as school bus driver, Southern Company, Longshoreman and eventually retired as a Heavy Machine Operator Foreman with SAIA. Larry was a GREAT man! Larry was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Larry, left this world suddenly on October 24, 2021, at the age of 70. He is preceded in death by his parents Joesph A Avery SR, Gertrude Waites-Avery, siblings, Arthur L. Avery, Sr., Joesph A. Avery Jr, Bobbie Mims, and Yvonne Walker. 

Larry was one of a kind person. If you knew him you loved him. He is a true comedian at heart who had no boundaries. He kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. He found Pleasure with the simplest things in life. He loved a quiet evening with friends and listening to the music. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met.

His love will forever be cherished by his loving children, Larry Avery, Jr., Sidney Avery, and Brittani Avery- Baines; brothers, Thomas (Gloria) Avery of Detroit, MI;  James (Johnnie) Avery of Fayetville, GA; Charlie Avery of Wilsonville, AL; sisters, Easter Cook of Gadsden, AL; Betty Rowe of Queens, NY; Ida Mae Avery of Jacksonville, FL; Catherine Howard of Jacksonville, FL; Cherrie A. Wells of Jacksonville, FL; eleven grandchildren, Kendra Atchison, Miesasha Avery, Aventrias Avery, Dezarae Avery, Rayne Chuma, Joesph J. Avery, Nialah Flower, Elijah Flower, Tyrice Curry, Charli Avery, and Roderick Baines; two great-grandchildren, Jayme Avery and Javen Estell; fourteen nieces and nine nephews special friend, Louise Kennedy, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and Friends.
