Lessie Mae Brown began her earthly journey on September 18th, 1932, in Talladega County, Alabama to the parentage of James S. Lee and Leila Dye Lee. She was affectionately known as Tootie by her family and friends. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Mount Olive Baptist Church. Tootie was a member of the Mount Olive Church Choir and often helped clean the church.
Tootie received her formal education in the Talladega County School System and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School.
Along Tootie’s life’s journey she met and united in Holy Matrimony to the late Frank Brown. She was an outstanding and dedicated employee at Avondale Mills until her retirement. After retirement, she helped clean residential homes throughout the community.
Lessie Mae Brown departed this walk of life on September 4th, 2022, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brown, son, Roosevelt Brown, parents, James S. Lee and Leila D. Lee, siblings, Lillie Mae Lee, Willie James Lee, Martin Lee, Frank W. Lee, Joe Lewis Lee, and Georgia Ray Lee.
Tootie’s love will forever be cherished by her loving daughter, Frankie Mae Chatman; grandchildren, Sebrina (Bernard) Chatman, Adrian Chatman, and Willie Chatman; one sister, Mary Jane Garrett; eight great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
