Chicago, Illinois - Lillie Marie Power (Dent), affectionately known as Ms. Lillie, was born February 3, 1934 in Greenville, Alabama to Cremia Dent (Lewis) and Henry Clay Dent, Sr. A few years later she moved with her family to Sylacauga, Alabama, where she was raised by her loving parents. She gave her life over to the Lord at a young age and attended church regularly. She attended East Highland High School where she met and married John Nathan Garfield Power, Jr.
Ms. Lillie moved with her husband and young children to Chicago in the late 50s where she lived for over 40 years. She worked the assembly lines in Chicagoland Factories until she retired and returned to Sylacauga, Alabama to take care of her mother in 1996. She continued to live in Alabama and care for her mother until her death in 2009. Ms. Lillie returned to her home church Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and began serving on the Mother Board until illness made it difficult to attend.
Due to illness, Ms. Lillie returned to Chicago in 2024 where she lived out her remaining years surrounded by family and friends. She loved her family and spoke regularly about how important it was to love one another. She loved taking care of others and she loved to cook and bake. She was known for her generosity and would give her last to anyone in need.
Lillie M. Power went peacefully in her sleep and joined the Lord on April 9, 2026. She was a loving sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Francis McElrath (Robert) of Sylacauga, AL, her brother-in-law, Robert McElrath of Sylacauga, AL, and her daughter, Vicki A. Nash.
She is survived by her brother, Henry Clay Dent, Jr. (Colleen) of Tuscaloosa, AL, son in law, Elder Leroy Nash of Chicago, IL; daughters, Tonia Arnold (Thomas) of Chicago, IL, Patricia Garrett (Early) of Sylacauga, AL, and Dawn Centeno (Juan) of Chicago, IL; Ms. Lillie's legacy includes 11 grandchildren, Denirreka Grigsby of Bilbro, Michael Grigsby, Jr. (Tamika), Kenneth Washington (Madinah), Jesse Washington, Jr., Orista Wilson, Marie Garrett, Christal Garrett, Pascha Rascoe (Shanean), Mariano Centeno (Erika), Imani Rascoe (Kiesha), and Raymond Rascoe, III (Jasmine). her legacy includes 19 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. She will be missed by several nieces, nephews. She will continue to live in our memories and our hearts. Rest well mama/ Mommy...
