Lillie Mae Smith was born on January 21, 1935, the first child to the union of Clarence Beavers and Aletha Culpepper Beavers in Cropwell, Alabama.
Lillie moved to Chicago where she met and married Odtis Smith in 1984. She studied the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 16, 1985. The loving couple enjoyed the ministry and loved having gatherings at their beautiful home. They enjoyed many years together until his death in 2004. Lillie lived a full, rich life, witnessing for Jehovah in every aspect of her journey.
Her legacy is aptly described at 1 Cor. 13:4-8 “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness but rejoice with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”
Lillie departed this walk of life on February 25, 2023, at the age of 88, under the care of Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Beavers, beloved husband, Odtis Smith, and her niece, Jackie Abrams.
Her love will forever be cherished by her loving sister and dear friend, Catherine (Rev. Richard) Fair, other relatives and special ones: Cocoa, Rounie, James, Jessica, Jennifer, Ammar, Brittini and Brandon.
There remains faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Cor 13:13
