Lorenzo Winston Obituary

Mr. Lorenzo Winston, affectionally known as “Cab”, was born on June 11, 1935, in Coatopa, Alabama (Sumter County), to his parents Jesse, Sr. and Eliza J. Winston. To this union, 16 children were born.

Lorenzo began his Chrisitan Walk at Bucks Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age and started his education at Bucks Chapel School. He moved to Childersburg, Alabama in 1953 where he continued his education and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School. He completed two years studying Auto Mechanics at    Alabama A&M University.

He was employed with Alabama Power for 46 years and he served as a Reserve Alabama State Trooper for many years. After retirement, he worked at Sylacauga Gardens, Advanced Auto Parts, Whisker’s, Nemak, and ABM Industries.

Lorenzo and Sarah were united in holy matrimony on December 20, 1959. To this union three children were born, Toni Selene, Lorenzo, Jr., and Christopher Lamar. He was a pillar of the community where he always was a servant to those in need and he was an avid gardener. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley CME Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse, Sr. and Eliza J. Winston; his son, Lorenzo, Jr.; his sisters, Emma Jean Lee, Elnora Howze, and Genzell W. Dykes; his brothers, Jett, Aaron, Joe Nathan, and Nathaniel Winston.

He leaves to cherish his legacy: his loving wife, Sarah; his children, Toni Selene and Christopher Lamar (Powder Springs, GA); one granddaughter, Kennedy Alexa (Tuscaloosa, AL); his siblings, Shirley Pearce (Cleveland, OH), Jesse Winston, Jr. (Burlington, KS), Mary Lawson and Rosetta Johnson (Amityville, NY), Rose   Marie Hayes (Roslyn Heights, NY), and Catherine Russell (Zion, IL), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
