Mary Catherine Nix Obituary

Sylacauga, Alabama - Mrs. Mary Catherine Nix, affectionately known as Mae Catherine, was born on September 28, 1950, in Sylacauga to the late Mr. Abram Cottingham and Mrs. Earline Cottingham. She peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at her residence.

At an early age, Mary accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Saint Thomas United Methodist Church. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life.

Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She found great joy in cooking meals for her family, listening to gospel music, and spending quality time surrounded by those she loved most. Her nurturing spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abram and Earline Cottingham; her significant other, Robert Stone; her daughter, Mary D. Nix; her brothers, Earnest Ray Cottingham and Billy   Cottingham; her sister, Jerlyn Cottingham; and her grandson, Seantaveous Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters,   Glenda Cottingham and Katherline Nix (Lee), both of Sylacauga, Alabama; one son, Amos Nix of Sylacauga, Alabama; two sisters, Sara Lee Cottingham of Wilmington, Delaware, and Julianne Walker of Columbiana, Alabama; two brothers, Albert Cottingham of Sylacauga, Alabama and Clarence Cottingham of Montgomery, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren, Tiffany Nix, Carlos Nix, Latoyia Cottingham, Marcus Cottingham, Billy Gamble, Lashawnda Cottingham Miller, Catrina Thompson, Sedrick Glenn, Jr., Ohige Glenn, Keneshia Nix, BreAsia Nix, Dameon Nix, Samara Nix, Traysean Kirksey, and Jaylan McKinney; twenty-six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.

Her legacy of love, faith, and family devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
