Mrs. Mary Emma Player's earthly journey began on April 3rd, 1926, in Sycamore, Alabama to the parentage of Clifford Cook and Minnie Cook. At an early age Mrs. Player accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Mountain Home Baptist Church, Sycamore, Alabama. She loved singing songs of joy and joined the Mountain Home Church senior choir. She also served in the Deaconess Ministry.
Mrs. Player received her formal education in the Talladega County System and attended Robert Russa Moton School in Sycamore, Alabama.
Along Mrs. Player’s life’s journey, she met and fell in love with her soulmate of 75 years and united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. James Lee Player, to this union five children were born. Mrs. Player was affectionate and compassionate when it came to her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Thursday, September 22nd, 2022, Mrs. Player departed this walk of life at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Minnie Cook, daughters, Sylvia Hale, daughter in law, Flois Player, sisters, Ruth Sawyer, Fannie B. Cook, and Grace Bryant, brothers, W.C. Cook, Willie Cook, Tommie L. Cook, Cephus J. Cook, and Clisby Wilson, Sr.
Mrs. Player’s love and memories will forever be cherished by her loving husband of 75 years, James Lee Player of Sycamore, AL; two sons, James Levon Player, Sr. of Sycamore, AL, and Freddie Dean Player of Harrisburg, PA; two daughters, Sharon (Alex) Lawson of Sycamore, AL, and Teresa (Rev. Robert) Gaddis of Sycamore, AL; one son in law, Victor Hale of Sycamore, AL; brother in laws, Deloris (Marilyn) Player of Tuskegee, AL, Charles Barber, Sr. of Sycamore, AL, Charles (Irene) Estelle of Jackson, MI, and Phillip (Angela) Estelle of Talladega, AL; sister in law, Marie Player of Talladega, AL; special niece, Perrilla Glenn of Sycamore, AL; twelve grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, fifteen great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
