Ms. Mary Jean Leonard earthly journey began on August 13, 1958, to the parentage of John L. Player and Edna L. Duncan in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Ms. Mary accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Harper Springs Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama. She received her formal education in the Talladega County School System and graduated from R.R. Moton High School, Sycamore, Alabama.
Ms. Mary’s love for people and children never allowed her to meet a stranger. You could often find her sitting on the porch, entertaining family and friends. She loved helping raise children in her neighborhood.
Ms. Mary departed this walk of life on December 12, 2021, at her residence in Childersburg, Alabama, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Edna L. Duncan, father, John L. Player, brother, Willie Leonard and stepfather, Rufus Lovejoy.
Her love will forever be cherished by daughters, Shirley (Oliver) Leonard-Smith and Monica Leonard both of Childersburg, AL; special friend, Marvin Hamilton of Sylacauga, AL; four grandsons, London (Tiara) McKinney, Keyuntae (Brooke) Leonard, Da’Shawn (Leah) Leonard all of Childersburg, AL; and Joshua Wheeler of Bessemer, AL; two great granddaughters, Katelynn Lon’Nae McKinney and Nova Marie Leonard; one sister, April (Larry) Orr of Oxford, AL; two brothers, Fisk Player of Sylacauga, AL; and Seneca Knight of Lafayette, LA; three aunts, Diane (Andy) Harris, Mary C. Nix, and Inez Leonard; two uncles, Greg (Tara) Patterson and Leonard Nix; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
