Melvin Charles Averette

Mr. Melvin Charles Averett was born November 17, 1953 to Otis and Lela Averett.  He Confessed and accepted Christ at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church. 

Mr. Averett was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Vickie Kelley on December 17, 1976.  The two remained united as one until August 20, 2013.  Unto this union three children were born. 

Mr. Averett was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Averett, Jr., his parents Otis and Lela Averett, his brother, Otis Averett, sisters, Ida Averett, Mildred Averett and Nettie Averett. 

Mr. Averett was one of the first children to integrate South Main Elementary School.  He entered the Army on January 25, 1977.  SP4 Averett worked as a telecom center operator.  After the Army he obtained an associate degree.  He worked at Alabama Power for thirty one years and retired in 2017. 

Mr. Averett departed this walk of life on November 15, 2020 at Brrokwood Medical Center, Birmingham, AL.   

 He leaves to cherish his memoires four children, Anthony Dark, Melissa Dark, Corry Averett, and Amy Averett; grandchildren, Cierra Swain, De’Liyah Smith, Jamia Averett, Sharod Marbury, and Kaylee Averett; one great grandson, Karter Graham; one sister, Alice Averett; one brother, Shelley Averett; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
