Sylacauga, Alabama - Menola Knight was born on January 10, 1939, in Coosa County, Alabama, to the loving parentage of Green Knight and Missouria Whetstone Knight. She departed this earthly life on February 7, 2026, peacefully at her residence in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Menola received her formal education at East Highland High School.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Hope Baptist Church. Later in life, she united with Greater New Hope Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member. She joyfully served as a member of the Seasoned Saints Choir and was known for her commitment to her church family.
Menola was no stranger to hard work. She was formerly employed with Velcon Filters and later became well known as an outstanding cook at Coosa Valley Medical Center, where she poured her heart into caring for others through her service. In addition, she was a private home caregiver for numerous families throughout Sylacauga and the surrounding areas, earning the respect and appreciation of many.
In her leisure time, Menola found great joy in playing card games—and she showed no mercy to anyone at the table, including her own grandchildren. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and cherished traveling with her family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Green and Missouria Knight; her brothers, Joe Archie Knight, Edward Knight, and Willie Green Knight; her sisters, Sally Ann Gaffney, Mary Lee Darby, Joyce Berry, and Annie Lou Robinson; and her stepson, Brian Garrett.
Menola leaves to cherish her loving memory three children: Gregory (Prettice) Knight of Sylacauga, Alabama; Julia (Duane) DuBose of Sylacauga, Alabama; and Aretha (Ernest) Lewis of New Rochelle, New York. She also leaves one sister, Wilma Gaffney of St. Louis, Missouri; stepsons, Erick (Lisa) Clisby of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Derrick (Veronica) Clisby of Columbus, Ohio; stepdaughters, Cynthia Price of Sylacauga, Alabama, and Anita (Edward) Carter of Sylacauga, Alabama.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ebony (David) Morris of Sylacauga, Alabama; Caterius Adams of Talladega, Alabama; Gregory Q. Knight of Saks, Alabama; Kayla (Kelvin) Traylor of Sylacauga, Alabama; Kaneesha (Cornelius) McNeely of Huntsville, Alabama; Keyana (Jordan) Riley of Canton, Mississippi; Kendrick (Abigail) Kirksey of Sylacauga, Alabama; and Lauren Lewis of New Rochelle, New York; along with a host of great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Special thanks to the caregivers, a very special niece, Tina (Calvin) Knight, and close friend Rose Keller and long time friend, Addie Cook.
