Minister Betty Pope Obituary

Minister Betty Ruth Pope was born on April 3, 1936. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She had such a sweet spirit and epitomized love and Godliness. She labored for the kingdom of God for most of her life. She accepted her call to the ministry so many years ago and served at Joyful Noise AOH Church of God. She was a faithful member and served in many capacities. She served as the President of 9 o‘clock prayer, senior choir member, on the Mother’s Board Ministry, she was the past president of the Trustee Board, a Sunday School Teacher, and she performed any church task asked of her. She was instrumental in the building of the new church and several other endeavors for her church. She was the prayer partner of Bishop Woods and a fervent supporter of the ministry. She worked at Avondale Mills and later at White Knight, from which she retired in 1993. Minister Pope loved her family and her extended church family with the kind of love that required no repayment or Thank you.

Her favorite hobby was sewing. She could sew anything from wedding dresses to socks. She was always sewing for someone. Minister Pope loved to love people. She loved sharing as much knowledge about life and Christ to anyone who would listen. She was a single mother for over 40 years and never skipped a beat in the loving and raising of her children. Ephesians 4:32-“And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” These are the words that she lived her life by.

Words can’t express how much she loved her family. She was always talking about getting them together. Even in our sorrow we have to recognize…. That is EXACTLY what she has done today. Her heart was as BIG as they come. She only knew how to give unconditional love, while being patient and understanding. Her smile would light up a room. If you couldn’t count on anyone else you could count on her.

Minister Pope was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2021. Minister Pope was preceded in death by her Mother Ms. Sislie Borden, her husband Mr. Willie Pope, two sons Mr. Perry Whetstone and Danny Pope, two brothers, Mullis Joe Sylmon, and Alex Wilkerson, four sisters, Carrie Lee Sylmon, Lucille Mae Harris, Lottie Rose Whiteside, and Susie Sylmon.
