Ophelia J. Ware's earthly journey began on July 25, 1935 in Dadeville, Alabama to the parents of Bertha Johnson and Ludora Heard Johnson. Ms. Ward, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and later united her faith with New Fellowship Christian Center, Opa Locka, Florida.
Ms. Ward received her education in the Sylacauga School System. In 1960, Ms. Ward relocated to Miami, Florida where she was employed by various employers in Florida. After 35 years of labor, she retired from Palm Springs General Hospital as a dietician. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).
Ms. Ward was full of life, she loved traveling and had a passion for taking pictures, and dearly loved her family. She didn’t meet a stranger, if you mention that you were related to her, she would remotely love you with all of her. The old adage “it takes a village to raise a child” is what she lived by, she was the village. She carried a camera wherever she went, you would have to stay on your P’s and Q’s around her or you would be on candid camera. Because of her passion for taking pictures we have tons of memories to look back and reminisce. She was short in stature but like E.F. Hatton when she spoke, she got the attention. It wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for you, and if she couldn’t, she would make it happen.
Ms. Ward departed this walk of life on May 1, 2023 under the care of Coosa Valley Medical Center, Sylacauga, Alabama. Reuniting with her husband, parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Her love will forever be cherished by her loving children, Patra Sweeting of Miami, FL, and French Carpenter of Sylacauga, AL; loving sisters, Mary L. Charles of Washington, DC, Clemmie Threatt of Sylacauga, AL, and Vera Dunklin of Sylacauga, AL; loving brothers, Sherman (Vilma) Johnson of Los Angeles, CA, and James (Doris) Johnson of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Chaquel Sweeting of Sylacauga, AL, Chanese (Delvin) Sweeting of Miami, FL, French L. Carpenter of Houston, TX, and Danielle Douglas of Miami, FL; nine great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
