Sylacauga, Alabama - Mr. Oscar Swain, Jr., a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and enduring love for his family, was born on December 8, 1937, in Talladega County, Alabama, to the late Oscar Swain, Sr. and Maebelle Samuels Swain.
At an early age, Oscar confessed Christ and united with Mt. Zion CME Church, where his spiritual foundation was firmly established. He received his education at Phyllis Wheatley High School and R. R. Moton School, carrying with him the values of hard work, respect, and perseverance throughout his life.
In 1958, Oscar was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Lou Jean Jones. From this union, they were blessed with three beautiful children, and together they built a legacy grounded in love, resilience, and devotion to family.
On April 24, 2026, Mr. Swain peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at Coosa Valley Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a family strengthened by his presence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Jean Swain, parents, Oscar Swain, Sr. and Maebelle Swain; his beloved children, Gloria J. Ashley and Oscar Lee Swain; granddaughter, Kamera D. Taylor; great-grandson, Lachristin Swain; three sisters, Ella Sue Carter, Lillie Mae Ashley, and Willie Mae Jones; and two brothers, Wallace Swain and Willie James Swain.
Though he has departed from this life, his love and memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him best. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted daughter, Pearl Kelly of Childersburg, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Coulette Swain; son-in-law, William L. Ashley, Sr.; eleven grandchildren, Angie Ashley, Vonda (Melvin) Gross, Lia Swain, Zecharia Swain, Eboney Carmichael, Ashley Carmichael, William (Tiffany) Ashley, Jr., LeDerrion (Shaniqua) Smoot, Denzel Edwards, Tyler Shepherd, and Grayshun Swain; one loving sister, Annie Pearl Brown; two lifelong friends, Alfred Cook and Warren Turner; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
