Deacon Otis Jenkins began his earthly life on August 4, 1933 in Selma, Alabama to the parents of Deacon James Jenkins, Sr. and Hannie Oaks Jenkins. Otis joined his parents, his wife, Nellie Jenkins, and other relatives in his heavenly transition on July 7, 2023. Deacon Otis’s life journey was full of life, laughter, kind hearted and loving. He had a passion for gardening different vegetables.
Otis accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and later united with Pine Grove Baptist Church, Sylacauga, Alabama, where he served faithfully and was ordained as a deacon. He continued to walk with the Lord and grew in grace.
Deacon Otis enlisted in the United States Army on October 6, 1953 and was ranked PVT. He was honorably discharged on March 25, 1957. After serving this country in the armed forces Deacon Otis, was employed with Ford Motor Company where he retired after 30 years of service.
Along Deacon Otis’s life’s journey, he met and united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Nellie Jenkins in 1997.
Otis’s love will forever be cherished by twelve loving children, Roderick (Allyson) Jenkins, Rev. Dexter (Barbara) Green, Nellie (Avery) McKinney, Deretha Green, Pearl Gooch, Robin Jones, Orzell Green, Jr., Marian Petty, Fredrick (Cammy) Green, Cherry (Anthony) Peterson, Sandra (Ronny) Adamson, and Tammy Carter; his loving brother, JV (Velna) Jenkins; his loving sister, Maggie Harris and a host of other relatives and friends.
