Sylacauga, Alabama - Regenia Lynn Cotton, affectionately known as “Gina,” was born on June 24, 1961, in Talladega County, Alabama, to the late Brice and Allie Thornton. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Gina peacefully departed this walk of life under the compassionate care of Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Gina received her education in the Talladega County School System and graduated from B.B. Comer Memorial High School in Sylacauga, Alabama. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Valley View Church, where her love for family, friends, and community was evident in all she did.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Gina lived her life with a spirit of love and joy. She found happiness in the simple things, cherished her Auburn Tigers—always cheering with a proud “War Eagle”—and treasured every moment with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world and her greatest source of pride.
She was preceded in death by Brice and Allie Thornton; Kenneth Cotton, Deno Thornton, “Punkin” Thornton, Jerry Thornton, and Bricey Thornton.
Gina leaves to cherish her precious memories three devoted children: Steven Cotton, Tony Cotton, and Casie Cotton; her loving siblings: Becky Gaither, Millie Dennis, Joseph Thornton, Clyde Thornton, and Lucky Thornton; six treasured grandchildren: Alyssa, Mac, Jordan, Evan, Abby, and Lilliana; a host of great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Her life was a reflection of love, laughter, and faith. Gina’s memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
